About

I was lucky enough to start performing as a teenager in Toronto’s coffee house scene in the late 1970s. It was a great time, with a real sense of being part of a community of artists. In 1998, I released a record of original songs, and played around town with friends for a few years. Then I stepped away from music for a while.

I pride myself on being able to write in many different styles. I’ve written songs for a cabaret project inspired by the great German cabaret scene of the 1920’s, and even co-wrote a K-Pop single with Bitsaeon of MONT.

These days, I’ve returned to songwriting with an even broader range and a deeper focus. I now write mostly at the piano, and my approach has expanded to include setting classical Chinese poetry to music (the poems are much more relevant today than you might think) and creating long-form narrative work like Troll Rising, a satirical spoken-word project.

My current projects — Songbook of Symbols, Tang Dynasty Songs, and Troll Rising — all come from the same impulse: to follow my inspiration wherever it leads.

This site brings that work together — past, present, and still unfolding.
